There are countless murals along the streets, alleys and in the parking lots. Anyone searching for the best walls in Dallas, or the most Instagram-worthy, scenic spots in Dallas will stumble into Deep Ellum. The 42 Murals project is responsible for a lot of the best Deep Ellum street art—inviting artists to paint walls each year. There are board games, too; it feels a lot like a living room! So, imagine my surprise when my first trip to Dallas was near perfect.

Now, my experiences and this guide are going to describe one fraction of Dallas, a growing area located in the southwest corner of downtown known as Oak Cliff, so I know that there is plenty left to The Big D that I have not seen. Dating someone from Dallas and having several friends from there as well, I know that many areas of the city leave a lot to be desired. It appears to have its charming and characterless areas just like any other city… and areas frequently featured on COPS.

Oak Cliff is exactly a three hour drive from Austin and is a straight shot up the dreadful highway known as I if you enjoy driving in two lanes due to construction and being boxed in my tractor trailers, I will be your jam.

The now defunct AC unit lives in a half-level behind the screen and looks like a Medieval torture chamber. If you find yourself in Dallas, I highly recommend checking out the Texas Theatre not only for its historical significance, but also for its vibrant events.

Much like Austin, everywhere you turn in Oak Cliff something unique and innovative is popping up. The Eagle Ford community developed just east of an important early crossing on the west fork of the Trinity River.

The area was first settled by the family of Enoch Horton, who moved there from Missouri in November When Horton found an eagle's nest in the area, he named the crossing Eagle Ford. Soon after, several families from the nearby community of La Runion settled in Eagle Ford. He also gave land for the Texas and Pacific Railway right-of-way and depot.

In , a post office opened in Eagle Ford and it remained in operation until Parkdale Heights is a neighborhood in east Dallas, Texas. The official name for the neighborhood is Parkdale, the neighborhood was established in It is bounded on the west by railroad tracks, on the northwest by railroad tracks, on the north by Military Parkway, on the east by Bisbee Drive and on the south by Scyene Road.
